Maternity Leave

An important day is here: the beginning of my Maternity Leave! I’m not going to justify (again) why I’ve stopped work a good 6 weeks in advance of expected delivery. It’s right for me, is all I’m going to say.

Faced with a day that I never really imagined would actually come (eek… there is going to be a baby moving in with us soon) I do actually feel slightly lost. Lots of people have warned me that I’ll be bored. I honestly don’t think that’s going to be a problem, as my calendar is already jam packed with stuff. Some of it fun – like pregnancy massage, aquanatal classes and a pregnancy photo shoot – but some of it less so – like endless hospital appointments and plenty of household chores. It’s the spaces between the stuff I already have scheduled that are more of a challenge. I’m not used to so much time being my own. And I know it will only last from now until the birth, so I want to make the most of it.

I decided this morning that the best thing to do was to make a list of things to get done, so that I have some sort of structure for my time. It started out well, listing the chores that need to be done and their various deadlines. Then, unsurprisingly, quite a lot of”fun stuff” started creeping on to the list. The list is now a page of A5 long and I don’t quite know where to start! So I’m back to square one with no particular structure, just lots and lots of free time. Don’t you feel for me?!

Hmmm… OK. Lazy breakfast and a blast of Mozart for Flangelina (actually for me). Then time for a bit of research on the best way to pre-wash cloth nappies, so that is a task I can get on with. And since it’s a lovely sunny day, a walk in to town for a bit of shopping might be in order. Wish me luck!
